was in, like 8th grade. I submitted (via my teacher) a written essay about air love gym socks something to the local Rotary Soroptomists someone. I’m sure it was impressive and inspiring and under 150 words. I got first place and won eight whole dollars. Now back in 1987, that was big. BIG. You know how many Big Gulps and Lemon Heads 8 $mackers would buy? Seriously.
In addition to my major cash prize, I was treated to a Winner’s Breakfast. At the restaurant they awarded me (along with the second and third place losers winners) a certificate and our cash.
