Make Me Laugh Monday - 80’s style

Today we are going to flashback to the 80’s… say, 1988 or so. The year I turned 16. Ya know, October 2008 is the 20th anniversary of my 16th birthday. Of course the only way to observe one’s 20th anniversary of one’s 16th birthday - is to throw one really big pzarty!

Which brings me to ask this question: What is a party without music? “No party at all!” I say! So I have been digging through my cassette tapes iTunes library, and have been making a few select iTunes purchases, thus assuring my party will be the rockin’est.

Thanks to my tireless research, have I uncovered a DOOZIE! I don’t even know if most people remember this song because it was ridiculously horrible. And by “horrible”, I don’t mean the lyrics were offensive - I mean - The. Song. Was. Horrible! The singing, the rapping, the dancing, the… 3 words - Not. So. Much.

I will say this though, the bass was kickin’ yo. I think that was why I liked this song… I let the bass pound - cruisin’ the Visalia strip - flirtin’ with boys - in my mid-80’s Subaru.. You are going to lose so much respect for me after this… Now, I give you “Supersonic” by J.J. Fad. Yep. It’s rap.

Since I have already sunk so low, what do I have to lose? Let’s continue, shall we? It gets worse.

Have you heard “Cars That Go Boom”? Now, this was a VERY popular song where I grew up - prolly because I grew up in the “mini-truck club” capital of the world. Good grief people. You must pity me so. Are you familiar with the mini-trucks?… Where the beds were all hydraulic’d out so they would shift and turn and bounce… But, the moving truck beds had nuthin’ on… the stereo systems. Nu-thin’. I remember tossing quarters-n-rocks on/near speakers and watching the heavy inanimate objects fly off the speakers for all the boomin’ from them woofers-n-tweeters-n-such.

Ishouldstoprightnow, Ishouldstoprightnow… I dated a truck club guy for a brief time. Gasp! I can’t believe I admitted that! Please forgive me. If it makes things any better - I broke up with him, and we never got to the point where he put a sticker of my name on the back of the passenger window. We all have skeletons, don’t judge me. OK, judge me. I deserve it.

But… back to my next video. You probably won’t be able to make it all the way through the next song. I know this because you will either pee yer britches for all the laughing at the ridiculousness and have to change your clothes… OR you will be running to the bathroom so as not to pee yer britches. Or your ears will just ache and you will run like children run from clowns… Anyway…

This song is THAT bad. I didn’t even really care for it back then, but I did listen to it on some thumpin’ stereo systems, fo shizzle. **I do not recommend this video for the children - musically or otherwise**

See? Oh nellie…

LMAO! I so remember screaming this song from a turquoise blue Geo Storm, cruising down Blackstone. Oh, those were the days. I will be spending the entire day, singing, “We like the cars, the cars that go boom…”

Not only do I remember that song, but I still like it!

Sweet leggings up to the navels, by the way. And the jackets. Really, they make the Pussycat Dolls look so amateurish.

LOL! That 2nd video was terribly bad! I laugh in the face of its badness. I can honestly say that I don’t remember that song. And now it will be stuck in my head all day. ;)

I forgive you for your truck club boyfriend. But where was I during the 80s? I’ve never heard of either of those songs, and I don’t remember the videos! Could it be I’m not as cool as I thought I was?
Anyway, thanks so much for picking my quote for the Blogtations Party. I’ve gotta get busy and get in on that. I absolutely LOVE Blogtations. Such a cool site.

I have a confession…I went to a monster truck pull event with my high school boyfriend. It was at the Cow Palace(isn’t that a lovely descriptive name) in San Francisco and we sat so high up in the stands that all that nasty black exhaust smoke drifted up to smother us as the night wore on. Yuck. And the noise? What was I thinking?!?!?

Glad we share a dark past Kerry!

The memories that came pouring in on those two videos! It was SO painful. The sad thing is that I remember liking that stupid Boom song. What a sad teenager I was!!!

No boyfriends with trucks while attending high school here. No boyfriends while attending high school at all. Sigh . . . but wait, this wasn’t about me, was it?!

Anyway . . . The Calm One had to actually interrupt his football game to come and see that first video. And he remembered it!

We used to put music like this on our cassette tape players and bust out moves in our basement on friday nights and then our dad would come down and say what the hells’ all the noise and we’d say “nothing”.
then he’d say “then why do have towels wrapped around your head and white socks on your hands?”
we didn’t have an answer for that one.
