Greetings friends and lurkers! Today’s installment of MMLM has to do with communication. In the spirit of this concept I would like to communicate with you about what Make Me Laugh Monday is about… you can find this information at the end of this post. But first, I want to try to make you laugh… Priorities people, priorities!
I went to a marriage conference this weekend… All about love, and patience and communication. At the event, the speaker showed a HILARIOUS commercial. I knew this commercial would have to be today’s MMLM post.
Did that make you laugh? Did ya laugh? Did ya, huh? Huh? *giggling*
… here in the Pacific Northwest. I am so glad I got a picture of this tree. I pass by it and swoon many times a week. After forgetting to make sure my camera was in the car, numerous times… I remembered. Two short days after this picture was taken, all but a few rogue leaves had fallen to the ground.
This next picture was taken at a location near my neighborhood. As with the tree in the picture above, the leaves from the light orange tree fell to ground only days after I finally captured these trees at the peak of their beauty.
I hope you all had a delightful weekend :) I just returned from a wonderful weekend away with my husband and 4 other couples. This evening, I am tired… but feeling refreshed and undeserving of the blessings in my life. Also, I am a little sore. This weekend I discovered I have a deep passion for table tennis, along with a passion for creative table tennis serves. You can bet I’ll be posting pictures very soon. Sweet dreams… or good morning if you happen to be reading this not at night :)

Fall is probably my favorite season, though at the end of every season I find I am ready for the changes of each new season… I believe the influence of my great-grandmother is a big reason for this love of Fall. However it has only been in recent years I have made this connection.
My great-grandma loved — L. to the O.V.E.D — the colors of Fall. As a child I remember her going on and on and ON about the beautiful leaves. I remember nodding and “mm-hmm”ing in well-mannered agreement when she would “ooh and awww” about the gorgeous array of Autumnal leafy goodness. Sadly, that was all it was for me back then… acknowledging I heard her talking.
Now, I am the one who swoons over the glorious changing colors. I take in the trees… the hues of yellows and oranges and reds. I track my favorite trees, half loving the progress as they release each leaf… half mourning the loss of their “glory”.
As I drive down roads and streets, I hear the words of my beloved Great-Grandma Sue flow from my lips to the ears of my children. I am so glad she shared her joy of this season with me. It is a connection I will always have… another way to remember her tender, loving touch in my life. I know it was in-part an admirable effort to keep up conversation — to stay connected to her growing, pubescent great-granddaughter. In this “season” of my life I now share her appreciation. I understand that when something is so beautiful in one’s eyes… it is hard not to swoon and share your love for such beauty with those near and dear to you. I overheard this conversation between Cole and Cole on our way to school a few days ago… I came in at the end:
Olivia: PILGRIMS???
Joel: You don’t know what Pilgrims AAAAARRRRREEEEE!?
Olivia: Nuh-uh.
Joel: Oliveeeuhhh!!! The Pilgrims (!!!) came across on The CAULIFLOWER!
Olivia: Oh.
And it’s TOTALLY true! We have been fed some lie about some ship called “The Mayflower”… But there was a major error in the ship’s name translation in original documents. Apparently the Ye Olde English word “May” is practically interchangeable with the lesser-used Ye Olde English word “Cauli”. The ship was actually named The Cauliflower!!! and your not-young mother dresses up as a Cheerleader (shhhhh, don’t say anything about the “not-young” part!):
What happens when these are the genes you inherited?…
This:
Sweetheart… your mother may never be able to teach you how to boil water, but she HAS taught you the foundational principles of cheer and the highly technical points of 2-person cheer-stunt safety. You know that is way more fun that boiling water… unless you get a wicked craving for Jello, thennnnnn… you’ll wish I had taught you how to boil water.

I have Adult ADHD. I know this because I took an online test. And just like that one online test told me my soul color is green, this one gave me hard, factual numbers on this “condition” I can now officially “own”. I scored a 95 on a scale of “0 & up”. I will give the top number a “cap” of 100, just because I need boundaries… and people with ADHD need boundaries. Here’s the scale given on the site:
0-24: No ADHD Likely
25-34: Borderline ADHD
35-49: Mild ADHD
50-69: Moderate ADHD
70 & up… Adult ADHD
I scored a 95… Yup. That’d plunk me comfortably in that “Adult ADHD” category. I even tried to “soften” my answers because I am told I tend to be too hard on myself. Knowing who they are dealing with, the site gave a fun-looking graphic, so as to keep my attention… I think the badge could have used a little Flash animation…
Not only is it Make Me Laugh Monday, but it is also, MMLM… November 3, 2008… Which means it is the day before the 2008 Presidential election which means I can totally make fun of a lot of people here, and who am I to pass up an opportunity, aye?
Therefore and hithertofor… I post one of those FW: fwd: FWD:: emails, that truly made me laugh. It is not often one of those “FW: fwd: FWD::” emails really gets my gut rolling, so I knew I had to share it. You may have received this email, and if so… enjoy it again. If not, then… have fun! Also, I added one at the end. I’m crazy like that.
You wanna know my favorite? Aristotle. I chose him so you’d think I was all-deep and philosophophish. When you leave a comment, tell me which one is YOURS!
I am a “stay at home mom”. Dooce has a humorous, yet “PG-13″ rated acrostic-of-sorts as her creative “title” for this highly esteemed role on her “about” page… My friend Jen created the You Might Be A Stay At Home Mom Saturday on her blog… which helps chronicle the moments that define us, overwhelm us, and leave us scratching our heads.
You know what? I get to field awesome comments about my purpose as a SAHM from time to time. I struggle with what to say when someone asks what I “do”, because the whole SAHM thing, while accurate in some ways — is quite inaccurate in others. The 21,000 miles in one year on my minivan might be proof enough. Maybe.
And in all honesty, I often long for recognition, awards, positive reviews and a raise. Not much of that is going on here. My recognition happens when a child says “Fank you” unprompted, or if we make it to the potty on time. My “reward” in the latter example is that I do not end up on my hands and knees, cleaning pee of the floor. Continue reading ‘And another punch to the chest, or ego… whichever.’
